Application Areas of Space Frame Systems

Space frame systems have numerous advantages, making them applicable in various fields. From buildings requiring open spaces to temporary exhibition pavilions, they are widely used. Here are some of the most common areas where space frame systems are encountered:

Aerospace Industry Facilities

Technical areas, such as hangars, satellite and rocket assembly facilities, control towers, observation decks, and R&D facilities, require wide openings and high ceilings. Space frame systems can easily create these features and offer many advantages over traditional building materials for applications in the aerospace industry.

Our example project in this regard is the VVIP Terminal Building at Kuwait International Airport. It features a high space truss dome with a square base and is located at the same airport as the A380 aircraft hangar roof with a free span of 96 m.

Transportation Structures

Space frame systems are highly suitable for constructing transportation structures, such as airports, train stations, and terminals. Compared to traditional building systems, they offer many technical advantages. They are easy to install, durable, and long-lasting, reducing costs in the long run. They can span large openings, and because they are lightweight, they do not impose a load on the structure. This makes them earthquake-resistant. Earthquake resistance is crucial for transportation structures, as they are heavily trafficked and serve as primary access routes to disaster areas after an earthquake.

Among our projects, the Haramain High-Speed Train Project and Balıkesir Terminal are example applications of space frame systems.

Stadiums, Sports halls and indoor swimming pools

Space frame systems are a popular choice for stadiums worldwide, thanks to their striking appearance and superior engineering. These systems allow for unique stadium designs and provide many advantages, including durability and safety, faster construction times, and reduced labor costs. These systems are particularly well-suited for designing large volumes required by sports halls and indoor swimming pools, as they offer technical simplicity. Since these facilities have heavy user traffic, they require certain hygienic standards. Space frame systems are easy to maintain and clean, making them the ideal solution for constructing these health-oriented facilities.

The Langreo Sports Center, Kazan Gymnasium, Cairo Olympic Multi Gymnasium Center Project, Sabancı University Gymnasium, and Ecole Normale Supérieure sports center are examples of our projects that use space frame systems in sports structures.

Industrial Buildings

Industrial buildings are utilized for production, storage, logistics, and distribution. Space frame systems allow for open-plan spaces that enable large volumes of production, expansion of storage areas, and flexibility in organizing interior spaces. The design options are flexible, ensuring the best possible utilization of industrial buildings that can withstand high wind and snow loads.

We have completed various industrial building projects, such as Akım Metal Factory Building, Alabuga Glass Factory, Starwood Paint Factory, and Kale Seramik Factory Building.

Shopping Centers

Shopping centers are large-scale projects with heavy user traffic and numerous commercial enterprises that serve various functions. Space frame systems provide strong and durable structural frames that can span large areas without the need for columns. This allows for natural lighting and ventilation, reducing energy costs and creating a comfortable shopping experience for visitors. As shopping center design continues to evolve, space frame systems will undoubtedly remain a popular choice for architects and builders.

Our successful applications of space frame systems in shopping centers include Pendik Neomarin AVM, Cyprus Dolfin AVM, Balıkesir AVM, and IKEA projects.

Cultural Buildings

Space frame systems make it possible to design open spaces that can accommodate large audiences in cultural and event spaces, such as theaters, museums, and exhibition halls. These systems are also large enough to display exhibitions and performances. Additionally, they can be adapted to the identity of cultural buildings by offering unique design possibilities that can increase the aesthetic appeal of a building.

The Rahmi M. Koç Museum, Sabanci Exhibition and Congress Center, and Mevlana Cultural Center are among our cultural building projects.

Office Buildings

Space frame systems provide design flexibility and organization of space by allowing wide openings for open office applications. Their designs allow for natural lighting and ventilation, which increase employee productivity and help reduce energy costs. Furthermore, they give office buildings a modern, spacious, and aesthetic appearance.

The Yapı Kredi Service Building and Yapı Industry Center projects are examples of the successful implementation of space frame systems in this regard.
